Aluminum foundry

29.05.2023

In the automotive, construction, energy or food industries, aluminum castings of various sizes, strength and purpose are extremely important. In the production of aluminum castings, it is extremely important to choose the right method of work, using a certain technology and observing the correctness of the casting process. How is aluminum cast?

What is aluminum alloy foundry?

An aluminum alloy is aluminum alloyed with one or more metals (although not necessarily) that determine the properties of a given material. Pure aluminum is extremely ductile and due to its low density of 2.7 g/cc. This is the so-called light metal, it is readily used in the aviation and transport industries or for the production of electrical wires.

Aluminum alloys are divided into casting and molding. Cast alloys include multicomponent alloys with a high content of alloying elements (5-25%), for example, with silicon; with silicon and magnesium; with silicon, copper, magnesium and manganese; with silicon, copper, nickel, magnesium and manganese.

They are usually created during the casting process, i.e. filling prepared molds with liquid metal or alloy. In this way, components such as pistons, motors, housings and tools can be produced.

What should be remembered when making castings?

An important issue in the manufacture of aluminum castings is the choice of the appropriate type of mold, disposable or reusable, necessary for a specific production technology. The casting process consists of several stages. The molds are filled with liquid metal, then the finished elements are removed and subjected to final molding and finishing.
